Good news for Europe

Good news for Europe: the agreement on the new treaty and the elections in Poland give a new lease o life to the European project.

England is now isolated in its pro-american, anti-european strategy. Let’s hope for the Scottish accession.

The issue of the Turkish accession is postponed for long, now that it entered into armed conflict in Kurdistan. Nobody will vote for that – I think.

Now let’s ratify the new treaty by the national Parliaments. That is the democratic procedure, avoiding the demagogy of referendums.

Goodbye Turkey

The last atitudes and demonstrations in Turkey show well how far it is from Europe, from the European ways of thinking and acting.

Of course it is stupid to prohibit someone to express his own opinion on matters like genocides here or there (like the French just did) . It is even contrary to a decent regime of freedom of though and of fredom of speech. But that is onother point ...

The fact remains that Turkey and the Turks are still unable to cope with free debate of ideas and opinions.

Turkey is clearly not close enough to the European common principles of culture and civilization to join de European Union.

At least for the time being. Maybe another generation ...
